CM Remix: Kimono

When I walked into Clothes Mentor to do my post this week, I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to style--I figured I'd find something pretty as I started browsing! My mom came with me to do some shopping (she's the one that got me hooked on Clothes Mentor in the first place,) and found a gorgeous coral kimono embroidered with a white floral pattern and finished with white fringe.

First, I talked her into buying it, because it looked amazing on her. Then, I asked if I could style it for my CM Remix post :) She was, of course, happy to let me use it.  I've struggled with styling kimonos in different and creative ways in the past, so here I styled it with both a dress and pants.

Kimono Styled with a Dress:

This is a fit-and-flare jersey dress with sleeves that ended just above the elbow (although my mom asked if she could wear this with a long-sleeved tee underneath in the winter, and I thought that would look great as well!)

I really did not care for how this outfit looked at first--the flowy kimono with the flared skirt of the dress looked super bulky and frumpy. I figured I would go try and find a more fitted dress, but then I saw the rack of belts and wondered if I could salvage this look. I added an off-white belt, and voila--something just came together. I think the belt added structure to the dress which then contrasted with the flowy silhouette of the kimono.

I believe adding heels also helped to elongate the leg and not make the outfit look so stumpy!

Kimono Styled with Pants:

Styling the kimono with pants gave it a more casual, everyday look. I added classic dark-wash skinny jeans and a textured gray tee under the kimono (it had a small, tight crochet pattern that wasn't so big as to clash with the larger print of the kimono.) The look was completed by coral slides and a gold chain-link necklace!
