Four Seasons, One Piece: Pastel Chinos

We have officially entered the month of August, and that can only mean one thing: Fall transition posts EVERYWHERE.

Although I am just as eager to get to autumn as the rest of you, I am going to spare you the fall transition content for the time being because it's still quite hot here in Kansas! Kind of a bummer that the hottest month of the year happens just when we are longing for fall the most.

But if you're looking for inspiration for how to wear your favorite pieces not just in the fall but through every season of the year, you have come to the right place! Today I'm sharing another installment in my Four Seasons, One Piece series, where I style a closet staple for all four seasons.

Today I'm styling a pair of pastel pink chino pants. The tips here would work for pretty much any pair of bright/pastel colored pants, whether they're chinos, slacks, or jeans!

For spring, I styled this preppy Pinspired look with a blue oxford shirt, my pink chinos, and Jack Rogers sandals. The relaxed feel of this outfit is perfect for spring because you are covered up but the pieces themselves are light--you don't want TOO many layers for the warmer parts of the day, but you also don't want to be left too chilly in the morning and evening when it's cooler.

Style It Yourself: Pair your colored pants with a casual button-down shirt whether it be a chambray, a printed flannel, or a crisp oxford like mine. Add some fun sandals or flats + classic accessories and you are good to go!

In my summer look, I wore my pastel chinos with a pretty lace tee, turquoise jewelry, and beige accessories. I loooooove turquoise and coral together, so was one of my favorite looks from 2015! I think the matching shoes + bag really pulls the look together. This outfit is great for summer because the lace tee and strappy wedges keep it light and cool, allowing your skin to breathe.

Style It Yourself: Wear your colored pants with a fun textured tee, whether that's lace, mesh detail, cutouts, or something else! Finish off the look with accessories that either match or coordinate with the tee and pants.

For the autumn, I paired pastel chinos with a navy lace tank (in a bigger, thicker pattern than the lace tee from the summer outfit) and a denim jacket. This outfit was from early autumn when it was still pretty cool, so I completed the look with sandals and a multistrand pearl necklace. This look is perfect for autumn because it uses a fall colorway, but the jacket is removable for those warmer times of day where you can just wear the lace tank underneath!

Style It Yourself: The basic outfit formula here is neutral tank + colored pants + completer piece. You could choose a printed tank, or something with texture like the lace tank below. For the completer piece you could grab a denim jacket for a more casual look, a bomber jacket if you're going for edgy chic, or a blazer for a more professional look.

Winter was definitely the hardest season to style these pants for, since it can be tricky to pull off pastels in the winter. So I chose to keep the rest of the outfit pretty subdued so the pants were the only part that really stand out. I layered a chambray under a striped sweater to keep warm and add some visual interest with the print, and finished off the look with boots to keep my feet warm!

Style It Yourself: This is a classic button-down + sweater + colored pants combination. Choose a print for either the button-down or the sweater (or try some pattern mixing with those two pieces) and complete the look with sensible winter shoes.
