CM Remix: Colorful Spring Skirt

I'd like to tell you a story about a skirt. A yellow pencil skirt from Ann Taylor with white polka dots. A skirt that's been at Clothes Mentor since October and November, and has been calling my name since I first saw it. Although it was only $12, I resisted buying it during the winter, since I couldn't see myself wearing such a bright fun pattern while it was so cold and dreary. Now it is March, and other than a weird blizzard this weekend, the weather has been lovely (as you can see from the photos!) So I finally pulled the trigger on this lovely, lovely skirt.

But before I bought it, I styled it for this week's CM Remix! Using pieces found exclusively at Clothes Mentor, I styled this colorful spring skirt two different ways: one that's professional, and one that's more casual. For the professional look, I styled the skirt with a classy but fun lace top! For my "completer piece" I chose a hot pink blazer. I would never have had the courage to wear hot pink and bright yellow together if not for Kimmy Schmidt's signature outfit--if not for that show, I would NEVER have thought to pair them! Now, I love the combination. To finish this look, I added nude wedges and a nude crossbody with a little sparkle to it.

For the casual look, I chose a light navy-colored sweater with a little ruffle detail at the top. I added a striped hat and mint flats (I love that navy/mint/yellow color combo!!!) This look would be so fun for a spring picnic, a religious service, or brunch with friends. It's great for spring as it's not too heavy, but still offers some coverage since spring can still get  a bit chilly!
