CM Remix: How to Wear Booties

For this month's Clothes Mentor Remix, I am going to share how to style booties. I'd like to start by saying that this post is dedicated to my dear mother, who owns a cute pair of booties and often asks for tips on how to style them. This one's for you, Mom!

Selecting Your Booties:

I started off by finding the fiercest pair of booties I could find at Clothes Mentor--these stylish babies by Etienne Aigner. My main tip for picking out the booties themselves is to buy a pair with a heel. It doesn't have to be a tall heel--1 or 2 inches will do if that's all you can handle--but a boot with a heel will do WONDERS for elongating your legs and creating a very flattering look! Booties with no heel are called Chelsea boots--there are a lot of people who can pull these off, but I am not one of those people. It is a lot easier to have stumpy looking legs when wearing Chelsea boots, but that's not so much of an issue when wearing booties with a heel.

Styled With A Dress:

First off, I styled the booties with a dress and tights. This kind of look would be perfect for work, as the dress + cardigan are very professional, and the boots add some interest without being TOO edgy. As for the styling of the booties themselves here are a few tips for how to wear them with a dress or skirt!
  • Make sure the dress/skirt you wear hits at the knee or above; with a midi/maxi skirt, the booties can make your legs look shorter.
  • Dark tights can make your ankles look even slimmer when styled with your booties!

Styled With Jeans:

Styling booties with jeans can be a little more tricky than simply throwing them on with a skirt, but can look really cute when done well! Here, I styled them with dark-wash skinny jeans. A few tips:
  • The way I always style my booties is with skinny jeans, cuffed so you can see a sliver of skin. Try and use the skinniest jeans possible for the best effect--the jeans pictured below are more of a straight-leg fit, but usually I wear true skinny jeans with my booties.
  • If you don't own skinny jeans or aren't comfortable wearing them, you can wear booties with wider-leg jeans, but the cuffing trick won't work and you won't be able to tuck the jeans into your booties. Just wear the booties under your jeans and let the tips poke out, kind of like a cowboy boot!
