Liebster Award!

Hi, friends! I'm super excited to have been nominated for a Liebster Award! I've been seeing it all over the Her Campus Blogger Network, and I'm super excited to take part!

For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's just kind of a fun exchange between small bloggers to discover new blogs, make new friends and get your favorite blogs' names out there! It's been going around the blogisphere forever, but I just now heard of it a few weeks ago! I was nominated by the sweet Haley over at Becoming Haley, who is a fellow member of HCBN!

The rules are as follows:
-First, post 11 random facts about yourself.
-Then, answer the 11 questions that the person who nominated you will post.
-Finally, choose 11 new blogs with under 200 followers for their Liebster Award, notify them that they have been nominated, and think of 11 questions for them to answer!

My 11 Random Facts:
1. I've always regretted not learning to play a musical instrument when I was younger, so I very recently started teaching myself to play guitar! It's hard, and my fingers hurt, but I really really enjoy it already!
2. As I write this, I'm on my second consecutive snow day. We got 14 inches of snow yesterday. It was blizzarding literally all day, from when I woke up to when I went to bed. It's pretty nice having a few days off to relax and get caught up on homework and whatnot!
3. I really like playing cards and board games. I was raised playing games with my family, and we play a lot of games at camp, too. Some of my favorite games are Settlers of Catan, Monopoly, and spades.
4. I paint my nails every Tuesday. I always take that time for myself to relax and pamper myself just a little. Plus if I don't carve out time for it in my schedule, it won't get done, and I really do feel much better when my nails are painted.
5. I almost never wear hats. They never really sit right on my head and if they do, they won't stay there. I've got a few that I want to try come spring, but it'll take a lot of courage.
6. I'm not normally very good at consistently reading my Bible every day, but I've had a quiet time every day so far in 2014. And I've been finding out that when I do have a quiet time, I feel much better all day. Just so much more joyful and peaceful, all day. Every time.
7. A few of my favorite movies are Hot Rod, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, and The Spectacular Now.
8. I haven't had a soda in 36 days, and that's a really long time for me.
9. Even though I go to KU, I don't really care that much about basketball. I really like their football team, though.
10. Hummus, veggies, and crackers and cheese are some of my favorite snacks, and I almost always have them in my fridge.
11. I used to cook all the time in high school, and now that I'm in college, I don't. And I really miss it.

Here are my answers to Haley's questions:

1. If you could spend a day with anyone, dead or alive, famous or not, who would it be? I think I'd have to say my grandmother. She passed away when I was a sophomore in high school. We were close, but I don't think I appreciated back then how similar we are and now, knowing where I am, I really strive to be more like her. I'd love to go back and spend a day with her, ask her about her life, and just soak in her wisdom and encouragement.

2. Who is your style icon and why? Hmmm. I really like Zooey Deschanel's style, especially her character Jess on New Girl. It's so classic, preppy and put-together, all the time. I can't say I dress like her all the time, but I definitely channel her with some of my outfits.

3. If you could have three wishes, what would they be? First, I would wish for clean water for everyone in the world. Because I think that's really important. Second, I would wish Mitch Hedberg (this stand-up comedian) back to life, because he died way too soon, and he'd be killing it on Twitter. Third, I'd wish for hair that grows faster. Not like super-freakish-fast, but fast enough that I wouldn't have to work for years to get it to where I want it to be.

4. What is one thing that you would do if you knew that you couldn’t fail? I'd probably go to beauty school. I think that being a hairdresser is the cutest job ever, but from what I've heard, it's really hard to do well.

5. What made you start blogging? After I started reading style blogs, I really wanted to try it but didn't have the guts. Then, I had a few friends tell me that they admired my style and that if I had a style blog, they would read it. That was what pushed me over the edge.

6. Describe your perfect vacation. Traveling around Europe for a summer with the love of my life. I'd just wanna spend a week or so in all the big cities like London, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, and whatnot.

7. Describe yourself with 5 adjectives. Friendly, open, positive, dedicated, and quirky.

8. What’s something that can always make you smile? Being with my brother. He's my best friend, and he always makes me laugh. Going off to college really made me appreciate the time I get to spend with him.

9. What is one of your favorite memories? Basically anything involving camp last summer. Spending a summer at camp was the time of my life. I grew so much, and formed friendships that I'll treasure forever.

10. What is your greatest fear? I apologize because this is really grim, but my biggest fear is a slow and painful death. I know it's not likely, but it's really scary because I don't deal with pain well. So yeah I think I watch too much TV.

11. What would you do with a million dollars? The first thing I would do is donate ten percent of that to the camp I worked at, because I believe that money's a gift from God, so I need to give AT LEAST 10 percent of that back to Him. Next, I would pay off my parents' mortgage and set them up for life. Then, I'd put me and my siblings through college. I'd probably go on a little shopping spree after that and then save the rest.

Finally, here are my own nominees for the award!

And here are my questions for my nominees:

2) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose to live?
3) What's your favorite song/album?

5) Why did you start blogging?
6) Describe your perfect day.
7) What is your favorite article of clothing/pair of shoes/accessory that you own?
8) What is your number one piece you'd like to add to your closet?
9) If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
10) If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you bring and why?
11) If you were stranded on a dessert island, what would it be made of?

Thanks again to Haley for the nomination! This is such a fun thing and I can't wait to see what my nominees say!

  1. Thanks for the nomination! This looks really fun! But I think 2 and 5 are the same question, dunno if you wanna change one of them...

    1. Oh, haha, thanks for pointing that out! I fixed it! And you're welcome, you deserve it! I love your blog!

    2. I just published my Liebster Award post before I saw that you changed question #5. I answered #2 honestly and #5 jokingly. :)
Also, like Carrie, I don't know 11 small bloggers, so I only had 7 nominations.
And I've never heard the dessert island joke before, but it's cute!

  2. Also, 11...what would the desert be made of?

    1. It's a joke! Like the question before was a desert island, but this one is a dessert island. So would you want it to be made out of ice cream? or cheesecake? or gummy bears? Something like that. Maybe that joke's not as common as I thought it was...

  3. Hi Alex!

Thank you for picking me to participate in this! :) Here's my random question - I just starting blogging recently and follow quite a few big bloggers but not any smaller ones (that I'm aware of). So...can I still participate? How can I link up with smaller bloggers? Any suggestions? Thank you!

    1. Yeah honestly these were literally the only bloggers I know that have less than 200 followers. I found most of them through Greater Than Rubies--the people who link up regularly and did the remix and whatnot, so I feel like I've developed some kind of relationship with them, and now I follow them. So maybe it's not even blogs you follow, but ones that you've read before and that seem to have the same interests as you. The others are people I've found through other blogging networks I'm a part of (like I'm in a few Greek Life blogging networks,) and one is a friend of mine in real life who writes a rockin' blog (not a style blog, but I love its content!) So you could find them any of those ways, but don't feel like you have to link to all 11! You could nominate just 1 or 2 if you can only find a few! No sweat!

  4. Hey Bud! Thanks for the cool award! I will have trouble getting those 11 bloggers but will do my best!

    1. Girl don't stress about finding 11! No sweat! And you're soooo welcome, you deserve it!
